Ingredients
  

  • 1.5 pounds ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Glaze
  • 1/4 cup ketchup (for glaze)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar (for glaze)
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (for glaze)

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Heat the oven to 375°F / 190°C and lightly grease a loaf pan or baking dish.
  2. Place the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, onion, salt, black pepper, ketchup, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce in a large bowl.
  3. Gently combine the ingredients until the mixture is evenly blended without overmixing.
  4. Move the meat mixture into the prepared pan and shape it into a loaf.
Glaze
  1. Combine the ketchup, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce in a small bowl to prepare the glaze.
  2. Coat the top of the meatloaf with half of the glaze.
Baking
  1. Bake the meatloaf for 45 minutes.
  2. Take the meatloaf from the oven and apply the remaining glaze over the surface.
  3. Return it to the oven and bake for 15 minutes more, until the center reaches 160°F / 71°C.
  4. Allow the meatloaf to rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

Use a meat thermometer to verify that the center reaches the required temperature before serving.
