Ingredients

Filling
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup bell peppers, diced
  • 1 cup carrots, shredded
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
Serving
  • Lettuce leaves (iceberg or butter lettuce work best)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method

Preparation
  1. Prepare the lettuce leaves and set them aside for serving.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat, then add the ground beef and cook while breaking it into smaller pieces until browned.
  3. Add the minced garlic, minced ginger, diced bell peppers, and shredded carrots to the cooked beef. Cook for about 5 minutes until the vegetables are slightly tender while retaining some texture.
  4. Mix the soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sesame oil into the beef mixture. Continue cooking for 2–3 minutes until the ingredients are evenly combined and fragrant.
  5. Taste the filling and adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper if needed.
  6. Allow the beef filling to sit for 2–3 minutes, then spoon it into the lettuce leaves and serve immediately.

Notes

Keep the lettuce leaves dry and store the leftover beef filling separately from the lettuce to help maintain a crisp texture.
