Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
Coating
  • Powdered sugar, for rolling

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F / 175°C and prepare baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt in a bowl, then set the dry mixture aside.
  3. Beat the softened butter with the granulated sugar for 2–3 minutes until the mixture becomes light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs individually, mixing after each addition, then blend in the vanilla extract and red food coloring until the dough mixture is evenly colored.
  5. Add the dry ingredients gradually and mix just until incorporated, avoiding overmixing.
  6. Cover the cookie dough and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
Baking
  1. Shape the chilled dough into small balls and roll each one thoroughly in powdered sugar.
  2. Arrange the coated dough balls on the prepared baking sheets and bake for 10–12 minutes until the cookies develop a crinkled surface with slightly soft centers.
  3. Allow the cookies to cool for several minutes before serving.

Notes

Chill the dough before baking and apply a generous powdered sugar coating to help achieve a more pronounced crinkle effect.
