Baking
- Move the dough to a lightly floured surface and gently shape it into a round about 1 inch thick.
- Cut the dough into rounds and arrange them on the lined baking sheet.
- Bake the shortcakes for 12–15 minutes until lightly golden.
Topping
- Combine sliced strawberries, lemon juice, and 2 tablespoons sugar in a bowl and allow the mixture to release its juices.
Assembly
- Slice the warm shortcakes in half, add the strawberry mixture between the layers, and finish with whipped cream if desired.
