Preparation
- Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9x9-inch baking dish.
- Coat the sliced apples with lemon juice, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a large bowl.
- Mix the all-purpose flour, old-fashioned oats, light brown sugar, and salt in a separate bowl.
- Work the cold cubed butter into the flour mixture until coarse crumbs form.
Baking
- Arrange the seasoned apple mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
- Cover the apples evenly with the crumble topping, keeping the topping loose.
- Bake for 40–45 minutes until the topping is golden brown and the apple filling bubbles around the edges.
- Allow the apple crisp to cool slightly before serving warm with optional vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, caramel sauce, or chopped nuts.
Notes
Use cold butter in the crumble topping to help create a crisp texture.
