Ingredients

  • 1 lb (454 g) shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 bunch asparagus, trimmed and cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
Garnish and serving
  • Fresh parsley, chopped
  • Lemon wedges
  • Chili flakes
  • Parmesan cheese

Method

Preparation
  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and melt the unsalted butter completely.
  2. Add minced garlic to the melted butter and cook for about 1 minute, keeping it from browning.
  3. Pat the shrimp dry, place them in the skillet in a single layer, and season with salt and black pepper.
Cooking
  1. Cook the shrimp for 1½–2 minutes per side until they turn pink and opaque, then move them to a plate.
  2. Add the asparagus pieces to the remaining garlic butter in the skillet and cook for 4–5 minutes until bright green and tender-crisp.
  3. Return the shrimp to the skillet and gently toss for 1 minute to coat with the garlic butter sauce.
  4. Finish with fresh parsley, lemon juice from the lemon wedges, and extra cracked black pepper if desired.
  5. Serve immediately with optional chili flakes or Parmesan cheese.

Notes

Pat shrimp dry before cooking to help improve browning and reduce excess steaming.
